The method used to calculate points for driver and outriders is simple. Each driver and rider will receive 1 point per mile of the competition, plus 1 point for each entrant he finishes in front of. This will include those entries that do not finish the course. In addition, the winner (fastest time) will receive 20 points and second place will receive 10 points.

The additional points for the winner and second will be awarded even if there are 1 or 2 entries in the event.

EXAMPLE: (for a 20 mile drive with 5 entries)

1st-20 points (1 point per mile) + 20 Points (fastest time) + 4 points (finished before 4 entries) = 44 points
2nd = 20 + 10 + 3 = 33 points
3rd = 20 + 2 = 22 points
4th = 20 + 1 = 21 points
5th = 20 points

Mileage is kept for animals only, and includes the ridden and driven animals. The mileage is kept in two different categories. If an animal is both ridden and driven in a given year, its mileage will be kept separately in both categories.

YEAR END AWARD

The official NEDA season ends on the last day of October each year. NEDA will award the top ten drivers and the top ten riders at years end. Also for mileage, the top ten driven and the top ten ridden animals will be recognized.
